The RGNIYD organised “Adolescent Mela” on 08.12.2017 at its campus which was executed by Adolescent Resource Center (ARC) supported by UNICEF. The primary objective of this Adolescent Mela is to felicitate the adolescent children who anchored and recorded radio programme in the “Ilanthalir” Community Radio station of RGNIYD. A total of 310 children accompanied by teachers from 9 Government schools in and around Sriperumbudur participated in this programme. The Mela was inaugurated by Dr.Vasanthi Rajendran, Professor, CTO & CB, RGNIYD who emphasized on the importance of adolescent health & well-being and digital safety of the adolescents. Dr. J. M. Arul Kamaraj, Assistant Professor, Loyola College, Chennai gave a motivational talk on “Adolescents an Assets to the Nation” who stressed on how the children’s self-development, developing holistic competencies to face challenges of life and to become the wealth of nation. Followed by the inaugural session, Dr. Vasanthi Rajendran, Professor, CTO & CB, RGNIYD distributed the prizes and certificates to the children who did best anchoring in the community radio programme. Best three schools were awarded with trophies for best programme themes like women education, child marriage, environmental cleanliness, protection of agriculture, patriotism, ill effects of substance use, suicide prevention, impact of social media and protection of democracy done through various program formats like drama, speech, debate, storytelling and folk songs. After prize distribution children performed cultural programme which they felt a great opportunity created under this platform. Earlier, Dr. S. Kumaravel, Principal Investigator of ARC welcomed the gathering. Finally Mr. Noel Antory Dass, Programme Officer, ARC proposed vote of thanks.
