Centre for Training, Orientation and Capacity Building organised a 3-Day Training of Trainers Programme on Policies and Programmes of Education for Youth from 25-27 July 2017. 25 District Youth Coordinators of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) from the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal participated in this programme. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Madan Mohan Goel, Director, RGNIYD. In his inaugural address he highlighted the need and importance of education for the youth, particularly, for the rural youth. He reiterated the need for information dissemination on various schemes and scholarships pertaining to education by the District Youth Coordinators to enhance the enrolment rates and enhance the participation of youth in higher educational programmes. He emphasised the need for tapping the demographic dividend which presents a window of opportunity for national development which is possible only through education which also will ensure gender equity, inclusiveness of marginalised sections of the society. Mr. Subhankar Bhowmik, Manager NIMI handled the session on ICT for Education. Mr. Balasatgurunadhan, Programme Manager of Aide at Action discussed the topic ‘Reaching the Unreached’. Mr. Premkumar, Coordinator BYST presented the topic ‘Vocationalizing Education’. Field visit was arranged in National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disability (NIEPMD) at Muttukadu. Sessions on Ensuring Equity in Education and Vocationalizing Education for the differently abled persons were handled by the Faculty of NIEPMD. Certificates of participation was distributed during the valedictory session by the Director, RGNIYD.

3 Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers2017-07-10 to 2017-07-16Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, Haryana

RGNIYD-Regional Centre successfully organized seven days Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers from 10th -16th July, 2017 at Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana. The training witnessed the participation of 25 Programme Officers from three districts of Haryana- Ambala, Yamuna nagar and Panchkula. The training programme was organized to orient the newly appointed NSS Programme Officers as well as to enhance the knowledge of the experienced Programme Officer. During the 7 day training the participants learned about their role in NSS as a NSS Programme Officers through various sessions facilitated by eminent and experienced Officials from NSS and other resource persons. They were also taught various core competency skills like leadership, communication skills , team dynamics and facilitation skills which will help them in leading future projects and dealing with students of their respective NSS Units. During the training, participants learned various activities and techniques to organize and conduct various programmes for NSS Volunteers. The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony was Dr. Ashok Chaudhary, Principal, Markandeshwar College, Shahbad. In the closing ceremony the participants shared their learning from the training and appreciated the efforts made by the RGNIYD team for making the training programme a great success. The training programme helped the participants to attain detailed knowledge about the National Service Scheme and skills required for fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of NSS Programme Officer. Participants were awarded with the certificates and group photo in the closing ceremony.

4 Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers2017-07-24 to 2017-07-30Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana

RGNIYD, Regional Centre, Chandigarh had organised a 7-day Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers from 24-30 July 2017 at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana. 55 Programme Officers from various schools and colleges participated in this training programme to gain knowledge about the work culture of NSS and youth development. The trained staff plays an important role in the successful implementation of any programme. In light of the crucial link between young people’s experience in programmes and the skills and knowledge, programme staff need to support youth workers. A growing movement has emerged to build some consensus about a set of core skills that all youth development workers should possess. The RGNIYD develop core competencies as the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes of youth development workers, and the “demonstrated capacities” that allow a youth development worker to be a resource to youth, NSS and communities. Therefore, it has been acknowledged that the well trained NSS Programme Officers can discharge their duties effectively with hard work and dedication. During the 7 day training, the participants learned about their role in NSS as an NSS Programme Officers through various sessions facilitated by eminent and experienced Officials from NSS and other resource persons. They were also taught various core competency skills like leadership, communication skills, team dynamics and facilitation skills which will help them in leading future projects and dealing with students of their respective NSS Units. The rationale behind this training was to provide orientation and to develop right thinking, approach and understanding about the philosophy of NSS, commitment, the motto of NSS and various programmes and policies. 5 Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers2017-07-24 to 2017-07-24RGNIYD Regional Centre Chandigarh

RGNIYD RC Chandigarh is conducting Orientation Training for NSS Programme Officers from 24-30 July, 2017 at RGNIYD RC for newly appointed NSS Programme Officers of Chandigarh to enhance their knowledge about NSS & to sharpen their interpersonal skills for their personal and professional growth. The trained staff plays an important role in the successful implementation of any programme. Therefore, it has been acknowledged that the well trained NSS Programme Officers can discharge their duties effectively with hard work and dedication. The rationale behind this training is to provide orientation and too develop right thinking, approach and understanding about the philosophy of NSS, leadership, commitment, motto of NSS and various programmes and policies. Capt Subhash Chand, Regional Director, NSS, Chandigarh graced the inaugural session as the chief guest in the presence of Mr. Stanzin Dawa, Regional Director, RGNIYD-RC Chandigarh. In the inaugural address Capt. Subhash Chand focused on how a training can help the NSS Programme Officers to perform better in their respective units. He appreciated the Regional Centre for imparting knowledge and skills using participatory methods making the impact of the training fruitful. He said that NSS is a great platform to utilize the potential of young people for community service and nation building. Mr. Stanzin Dawa while addressing the POs acknowledged the importance of a teacher in the life of a student as they are the shaper of their destiny. He said working with young people is the most challenging job as they are the vulnerable part of our society. He informed the participants that in order to make young people work for the community they need be compassionate, concerned and apprehensive. He referred to the objectives of the orientation training and mentioned that the participants should take full advantage of the training programme to enhance their knowledge and skills. The training included participatory sessions by eminent speakers. The training was concluded on 30th July 2017 by presenting certificates and group pictures to all the participants.
