Youth Leadership for Global Understanding of Sustainable Development on 24th July, 2017

Sriperumbudur (Chennai) 24th July 2017, RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (RGNIYD) hosted  the visit of Sri Lankan Youth Delegates to RGNIYD on the theme of “Global Understanding for Sustainable Development”.  Prof  MM Goel,   Director RGNIYD  and a noted Economist,  delivered the inaugural speech  to the delegates and the students with his insight on sustainable development  and the relation with spirituality – the science of soul  He emphasized that; we need to become street smart for environment management with implementation of polluter pay principle. There is a need to possess the   potential to function still better by keeping a vigilant eye on the emerging challenges for sustainable development with political will, determination, shared vision and concrete plan of action. He further added making sincere efforts towards prosperity, progress and peace with proper, productive and practical use of hands, head and heart is essential for sustainable development.

Professor Goel stated that the need of the day is to understand the relationship management between nature and human being in all aspects of life including behavioural pollution more serious than air and water pollution. He strongly believes that in the process of sustainable development the essentials include Resistance, Resilience. Regeneration, Redesign and Replenishment. He reminded the contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, focusing on environmental consciousness at all levels of operation in the economy with a cost effective approach along with faithfulness and wisdom.

Mr Lenard Staneley, Mr Dinesh Gajendran and Dr RamBabu Botcha   were other dignitaries present.

Prof MM Goel also distributed the certificates to the delegates.

The Head of the Department Social Work, Dr S Kumaravel illustrated the objectives of the programme and highlighted on the need for friendship, peace building and youth leadership for social change.
